Dealing with the Critical_Process_Died error and a Blue Screen of Death is not going to be easy. Not only this shows hardware or software issues, but it can put a stop to your entire productivity. If you encounter this error, we have the right solutions here!

Regular BSOD errors are a part of the Windows OS since Windows NT 3.1. That version was released in 1993, so this is one of the oldest error types out there. These errors appear when you encounter a fatal system error. The idea is to send such an error to warn the user about potential system damage!

Fixing the “Critical Process Died” Error in Windows 10

You shouldn’t worry that much because the Critical_Process_Died error is solvable. We created a list with 4 solutions that will come in handy for you!

Cause

Usually, this error appears when a very important process for the Windows functionality will just stop working. It’s hard to identify what process is that, because it can be connected to the RAM, SSD, processor and so on.

1. Revert to the Previous Working State

If you just installed a new app and it automatically led to a BSOD, what you have to do to avoid the Critical_Process_Died error is to revert to a previous state. Using System Restore is great here, or you can uninstall that software on your own. System Restore is great because it creates automatic backups and you can easily revert to that version without issues.

Using system restore in Windows 10:

1.Start by opening the Start Menu
2.Write System Restore
3.Select the option to create a system restore point
4.Under the System Protection Tab, click System Restore
5.You will see a window with all the current restore points
6.Select the one that suits your needs, confirm
7.Wait for Windows to finish the process

Windows Restore is great, but it can delete some of your apps and programs or settings. But it will be more than ok most of the time. Win 10 can scan for drivers and programs that were deleted; you just have to write those down and reinstall them!

2: Run SFC & DISM

The Critical_Process_Died can also be caused by corrupted RAM or hard drive. The first check you should do is this one!

· SFC is a system file checker that will help you replace the faulty or problematic system files.

To do this, press the Windows key, type in CMD and then right click to Run as Administrator.

2) Add in sfs /scannow and then press Enter.

You will now have to wait until the process is completed. Restart the computer when asked to do so.
· DISM means Deployment Image Servicing and Management. It will work great if the file checker doesn't get to do anything.

1. To use it, press the Windows key, type CMD and then right click to Run as Administrator.

2. In the window that appears, you need to add each one of the following commands. Add them one by one, then press Enter for each one of them!
Code:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

3. When the process is complete, you just have to restart your computer!

3.Check and Fix Faulty Driver

Faulty drivers can usually cause the Critical_Process_Died error and a BSOD. Viruses or errors can lead to this problem, but checking for a faulty driver can help you a lot. Here’s what you have to do

1. Restart the computer and then enter safe mode
2. Here you need to enter the Start Menu, write Device Manager and then open up the app.
3. Select the arrow sign from the left bar to see the hardware drivers and chipset drivers.
4. All you need is to identify the faulty drivers; they will have a yellow triangle near them!

5. You can either delete or disable the faulty driver. Complete the process by restarting your computer!

4. Refresh or Reinstall Windows

There will be times when approaches like this will not work. So, the only thing that you can do is to either refresh or reinstall your operating system. If you opt for a refresh, this will keep the personal data, but the OS will be reinstalled. However, reinstalling Windows will delete everything from your C drive. This is the best option if you want to deal with the Critical_Process_Died error.

Refreshing your computer is as simple as going to the right corner of your screen, select Settings/Change PC Settings/Update and Recovery/Recovery and here select the option to Refresh your PC without affecting your files.

In case you want to reinstall Windows, insert the DVD or your USB stick with the Windows image and follow the instructions. Formatting the C drive is a must here, so keep that in mind!
